Deadline is reporting that Monsters is being turned into a television series by Vertigo Films for UK’s Channel 4. Ronan Bennett is set to oversee the series while Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith are on writing duties. Development of the series is happening quickly as there are already talks with streaming video on demand services like Netflix and Amazon.
Written and directed by Gareth Edwards, Monsters was released in December 2010. The story revolves around the sudden appearance of giant alien monsters after a NASA deep-space probe that was launched to verify alien life forms comes crashing back to earth. The US and Mexican military launch an offensive on the creatures as a photojournalist attempts to rescue his employers daughter and make it to safety.
The film, which was Gareth Edwards first feature debut raked in $4.2 million dollars while costing $500,000 dollars to make. This eventually led to Edwards being named director of 2014’s Godzilla from Legendary Pictures.
