‘Midnight Mass’ From Mike Flanagan Debuts Next Month

Mike Flanagan is looking to extend his winning streak on Netflix with another limited series–Midnight Mass.

The seven-episode horror series–written and directed by Flanagan–will hit the streamer Sept. 24, as reported by JoBlo.com. A very disturbing teaser for the show–along with several dramatic images–can be seen on this page.

Flanagan–whose Netflix successes already include The Haunting of Hill House and The Haunting of Bly Manor (not to mention his feature films Doctor Sleep and Gerald’s Game)–said Midnight Mass is “my favorite project so far. The ideas at the root of this show scare me to my core.” The filmmaker added that some of the darkness in this show is “supernatural, but the scariest is born of human nature.”

Midnight Mass tells the story of an isolated island community “whose existing divisions are amplified by the return of a disgraced young man (Zach Gilford) and the arrival of a charismatic priest (Hamish Linklater),” according to the official synopsis.

“When Father Paul’s appearance on Crockett Island coincides with seemingly miraculous events, a renewed religious fervor takes hold of the community. But do these miracles come at a price?”

The Intrepid Pictures series–with Flanagan and Trevor Macy acting as executive producers–also stars Kate Siegel, Rahul Abburi, Crystal Balint, Matt Biedel, Alex Essoe and Annarah Cymone.
