A new horror/thriller is fleshing out its cast–and this week the project landed a couple of big fish.
Mickey Rourke and Taye Diggs have signed on to star in Mammon–a scary-sounding flick that will be the feature directorial debut for Isaac Walsh–as reported by Deadline. In addition, Jessica Uberuaga (The Fanatic, Take Back) has joined the swelling cast.
Mammon–the Biblical term for the worship of wealth–was written by Walsh and Tyler Clair Smith and produced by Mike Hatton through his production company, Ton of Hats. The laundry list of executive producers includes Glen D. Smith, Gary Smith, Gary Smith Jr., Kimberly Hines, Michael Walker, Garrett Zinke, Ryan McDonald and Asko Akopyan.
The storyline of the new film deals with “a struggling young couple who is chasing the American Dream, and who soon realize their worst nightmare is the demonic spirit in their new home. (And) the couple discovers that getting rich can come at a hefty price,” as explained by the official synopsis.
Mammon–in pre-production as of this writing, leading up to the start of shooting in Southern California next month–dos not have a release date at this time.
Rourke–who was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his lead role in 2009’s The Wrester–is no stranger to the horror genre. This spring, he wrapped his role in Warhunt in Riga, Latvia, as reported here in Horror News Network. The film, still waiting for a release date, follows a group of soldiers during World War II who stumble across a coven of witches in Germany’s Black Forest. Rourke also recently starred in Nightmare Cinema.
Diggs’ resume includes The Best Man franchise, Chicago (for which he won a Screen Actors Guild Ensemble Award) and Rent, as well as the television series Empire and Murder in the First.
