Michael Lerner–an Oscar nominee best known to genre fans for his role in 1991’s Omen IV: The Awakening–has passed away at the age of 81.
Lerner’s nephew Sam wrote on social media, “We lost a legend last night. It’s hard to put into words how brilliant my uncle Michael was, and how influential he was to me,.”

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Lerner made his film debut in 1970’s Alex in Wonderland, and went on to appear in supporting roles in The Candidate and the 1981 remake of The Postman Always Rings Twice.
Nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his appearance in 1991’s Barton Fink, Lerner appeared in such genre films as Anguish (1987), Maniac Cop 2 (1990) and Godzilla (1998)–in addition to Omen IV.
