MGM Acquires Rights To ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Sequel

The living dead are moving forward…yet again.

MGM has landed worldwide rights to the upcoming sequel to George A. Romero’s 1968 zombie classic Night of the Living Dead, according to a report on Deadline.

Village Roadshow Pictures–working with Chris Romero, Sanibel Films, Origin Story, Vertigo and Westbrook Studios–is developing the new horror feature, that MGM is planning for a theatrical release.

The storyline of the new film–directed by Nikyatu Jusu (Nanny) from a screenplay by LaToya Morgan (The Walking Dead)–is being kept hush-hush at this time, but horror fans can expect scores of zombies on the screen.

The original Night of the Living Dead essentially launched the zombie sub-genre, with Romero directing five sequels between 1978 and 2009. Jusu said the film is “still so resonant to this day. Zombies reflect the ways humans treat each other, and show us who is truly the monster.”
