Melissa McBride Leaves ‘The Walking Dead’ Spinoff Series

It looks like Daryl is on his own.

AMC’s planned Daryl/Carol offshoot of its zombie apocalypse The Walking Dead franchise this week suffered a major loss, as it was reported by tvline.com that Melissa McBride will no longer be involved with the show.

The series, as explained, will still go forward–with the emphasis solely on Norman Reedus’ Daryl Dixon character. There were conflicting reports regarding McBride’s departure–one source said the decision was a “creative one,” while another cited “logistics”.

An AMC spokesperson said in a statement that McBride is “no longer able to participate in the previously announced spinoff focused on the Daryl Dixon and Carol Peletier characters, which will be set and filmed in Europe this summer and premiere next year.”

The statement added that “relocating to Europe became logistically untenable for Melissa at this time. We very much hope to see Carol again in the near future.”

The untitled spinoff–announced back in September 2020–was created by TWD chief content officer Scott M. Gimple and showrunner Angela Kang.
