It’s really hard to faze New Yorkers–but Ghostface is gonna try.
Scream 6 (or whatever the official title will be) recently wrapped production in Canada, and appears to be on target for its March 31, 2023 theatrical release. And this installment in the horror franchise will have a new playground–New York City.
The brief synopsis that’s been shared so far has the four survivors of the Ghostface killings “leaving Woodsboro behind and starting a fresh chapter.” And that chapter will place them in the Big Apple, and one of the returning stars–Melissa Barrera–recently teased what that was like.
When asked during an interview with Collider what it was like to be chased by Ghostface through the big city, Barrera shared an interesting observation. “It’s 20 times more mortifying,” she said. “It’s awful.”
Expounding on that, the actor added, “In a city like New York, everyone is doing his own thing, and someone is screaming for help, and no one will come to their help. So, it’s mortifying, because you’re chased by Ghostface, but you also see humanity and how that reacts in a situation like that.”
This next Scream–directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick–also stars veterans Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding and Jenna Ortega–along with newcomers Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra and Henry Czerny. As reported, Neve Campbell will not reprise her Sidney Prescott role.
