Melissa Barrera Set To “Scream” In Next Universal Monster Film

Old friends and familiar faces.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the Radio Silence filmmaking team–Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella–are working on a mystery monster thriller for Universal Pictures.

Now, it’s been reported by Deadline that one of the stars of their last horror hit–Scream VI–will join the cast. Melissa Barrera–who plays Sam Carpenter in the Scream franchise–is the first actor to sign onto the new project.

The new film will be directed by Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett (with Villella producing) from a screenplay by Stephen Shields, with revisions by Guy Busick.

Almost nothing is known about the film (including the title), but it reportedly will offer “a unique take on legendary monster lore and a fresh, new direction for how to celebrate these classic characters.”

Scream VI–the latest box office success in the classic film franchise–has (to date) earned more than $105 million domestically and $163 million worldwide.
