‘Mayfair Witches’ Gets Release Date, Drops First Trailer

The witches arrive with the new year.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches–AMC’s adaptation of the bestselling author’s Lives of the Mayfair Witches trilogy–this week unveiled its first trailer and release date. Check out the video on this page.

The eight-episode first season–led by executive producers Mark Johnson, Esta Spalding and Michelle Ashford–will debut on AMC Jan. 5, 2023. Spalding and Ashford will also team up on the screenplays.

Mayfair Witches–according to an updated synopsis–is “an exploration of female power and the moral implications of our decisions.” The series focuses on “an intuitive young neurosurgeon (Alexandra Daddario), who discovers she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches.”

As she grapples with her newfound powers, “she must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations.”

The series also stars Harry Hamlin as Cortland Mayfair, patriarch of the Mayfair clan; Jack Huston as Lasher, a shape-shifting entity who has been bound to the Mayfair witches for hundreds of years; Annabeth Gish as Diedre; Beth Grant as Carlotta; Erica Gimpel as Ellie; Jen Richards as Jojo; and Tongayi Chirisa as Ciprien.
