Maybe Marvel can do old-school horror.
Marvel’s long-hyped Halloween werewolf special finally got its official title this weekend, as well as a black-and-white trailer that seems to pose as many questions as it answers. Check out the Hammer film-inspired trailer on this page.
The one-hour special–which hits Disney+ Oct. 7–is, indeed, called Werewolf by Night, and it stars Gael Garcia Bernal (Old) in the title role, but this doesn’t seem to be the Jack Russell character introduced in Marvel Comics 50 years ago.
The show–directed by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino–will also star Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) in what appears to be the role of Vampire by Night from Marvel Comics. As for the atmosphere, horror elements and storyline, the trailer seems to be a departure from other Marvel cinematic efforts. Stay tuned for more details that are sure to come down the pike soon.
The original Marvel Comics Werewolf by Night (Jack Russell) character–created by writers Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway and artist Mike Ploog–debuted in Marvel Spotlight No. 2 in 1972, and eventually earned his own title that ran for 43 issues until 1977.
