Marvel’s Halloween Werewolf Special May Have Its Villain

A little bit of moonlight is filtering through.

The upcoming Marvel Werewolf by Night special–which still does not have a title or detailed synopsis–is expected to hit Disney+ “later this year” (supposedly around Halloween), and this week the show’s villain may have been revealed, according to a report on The Illuminerdi.

The mystery horror show–directed by award-winning film composer Michael Giacchino–reportedly will star Gael Garcia Bernal (Old) as the werewolf in question, along with Laura Donnelly (The Nevers) as monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone. And now, Harriet Sansom Harris has reportedly been cast as Verrusa, described as the leader of a cult from the House of Bloodstone.

Giacchino over the summer said–without giving away anything about the one-hour show–that he’s been “having a blast” working on it. “It’s been an incredibly challenging process,” he added. “We’re in the middle of it, and hopefully very soon, we’ll share a lot more about it.”

The original Marvel Comics Werewolf by Night (Jack Russell) character–created by writers Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway along with artist Mike Ploog–debuted in Marvel Spotlight No. 2 in 1972, and eventually earned his own title that ran for 43 issues until 1977.
