The six-episode series–slated to air on Disney+ sometime in the first half of 2022–is the brainchild of Jeremy Slater, who also serves as head writer–alongside Beau DeMayo, Danielle Iman and Alex Meenehan.
Mohamed Diab leads the directing team–helming four episodes–with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead directing the remaining two shows.
The series stars Oscar Isaac in the dual title role of Moon Knight and his main alter ego Marc Spector, with Ethan Hawke on board as the primary villain. May Calamawy has also been cast in an undisclosed role.
One of the most interesting aspects of this series–and of the character itself–is that Spector, a former U.S. Marine who suffers from dissociative identity disorder (DID), has become a conduit for the Egyptian moon god Khonshu. Each of Spector’s identities from his DID are very distinct characters and add to the anti-hero’s unique approach to his mission.
The Marvel Comics Moon Knight character–created by writer Doug Moench and artist Don Perlin–made his first appearance in Werewolf by Night No. 32 (Aug. 1975). The mysterious character enjoyed a strong run in the 1980s, and a brand-new comic debuted over the summer that described Moon Knight as “a renegade priest of Khonshu who observers his duty: protecting those who travel by night.”
