‘M3GAN’ Shatters $70M Mark At Box Office In Third Weekend

This doll has staying power.

Not only is a sequel to the Blumhouse/Atomic Monster horror smash M3GAN already in the works, but the original continues its rampage through the box office in its third weekend.

M3GAN raked in more than $9 million from 3,600 theaters this weekend, placing third in the domestic box office sweepstakes, according to a report on Deadline. This haul brings the film to a tidy $72.6 million total for its domestic run so far.

As reported here in Horror News Network, a sequel–M3GAN 2.0–is aiming for a Jan. 17, 2025 theatrical debut, with screenwriter Akela Cooper and stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw on board for the ride.

Jason Blum and James Wan will again produce the feature, but there’s no word at this time if Gerard Johnstone will return in the director’s chair.

M3GAN follows Gemma (Williams), a toy company roboticist who creates M3GAN (Model 3 Generative Android)–a lifelike doll designed to be “a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally,” according to the synopsis.

But the horror begins when Gemma gets custody of her eight-year-old orphaned niece Cady (McGraw), and the android mysteriously becomes more independent and violent towards anyone who threatens Cady.
