Lucifer–the series that just won’t die–is finally preparing for its swan song.
The popular Netflix horror/fantasy show–resurrected twice already during its devilish run–is heading toward its sixth and final season, as reported by comicbook.com, and the first photo of the next season–showing star Tom Ellis–is on this page.
Ellis this week took to Instagram to say, “Good things are coming” and to show his Lucifer Morningstar character casually leaning against a DeLorean on a sun-splashed street. A DeLorean? Could there be a Back to the Future mash-up somewhere down the line?
As fans will recall, at the end of Season 5, Lucifer’s lady love, Det. Chloe Decker (Lauren German), died and went to heaven, but Lucifer made the ultimate sacrifice to bring her back. This act redeemed him and, against all odds, Lucifer then took over as God. So, what does this mean for the Lucifer-Chloe relationship?
Showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson had some interesting things to say about that bizarre turn of events and what lies ahead for Season 6. “We knew we had done this splashy Season 5B, and we didn’t want to try to top ourselves and just be empty action,” Modrovich said. “So, we found the more intimate story for all our characters, and a much more emotional one.”
Henderson agreed. “It is by far the most intimate season we’ve done” he said, “and it also has the most expensive episode we’ve ever made. We’ve got plenty of spectacle.”
The 10-episode Season 6 of Lucifer will kick off–at a date yet to be announced–with a chapter entitled Nothing Ever Changes Around Here (which is likely to be a very tongue-in-cheek comment on the season).
The show–based on the unlikely premise that Lucifer, Lord of Hell, becomes bored, moves to Los Angeles, opens a nightclub called Lux and consults for the LAPD–stars Ellis as Lucifer (and his twin brother Michael), German, D.B. Woodside, Lesley-Ann Brandt, Scarlett Estevez, Rachel Harris, Merrin Dungey and Brianna Hildebrand.
