Lionsgate Picks Up Rights For New Horror Thriller ‘Breeders’

by Thomas Tuna

This horror project is being kept under wraps…for now.

Breeders–a new film described as a “social horror thriller” in the vein of Fresh, a “dating-gone-wrong thriller”–has been acquired by Lionsgate for a release yet to be determined, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film–starring House of Dragons star Olivia Cooke–is helmed by rising genre director Kelsey Bollig, whose The Fourth Wall won best horror film at the Nightmares Film Festival and best screenplay at the Festival de Cine de Terror de Molins de Rei in Spain.

Adam McKay–the filmmaker behind Netflix’ Don’t Look Up–dreamed up the idea behind the project along with Brian Steele, who wrote the screenplay.

Lionsgate’s Erin Westerman praised Bollig’s work, saying her films “come straight out of a horror sensibility she’s been honing her entire life, and Breeders is a perfect example. It will be terrifying, and Olivia Cooke is perfect for it.”
