Lee Cronin Has Mixed Feelings About Another ‘Evil Dead’ Film

by Thomas Tuna

Will he stay or will he go?

Lee Cronin–the writer/director of Evil Dead Rise, this year’s entry in the classic horror franchise–is understandably pleased with the success of his film, but is that enough for him to return for another chapter?

Well, during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the filmmaker was ambiguous at best. “Another Evil Dead is always a possibility,” he said. “I had a great experience making this movie with some really great people and, in success, that makes you look at what’s possible next.”

But. on the other hand, Cronin added, “There’s a part of me that’s interested in planting a very different flag within the genre. Maybe it would be gratifying for me to just go and do something else.”

Still and all, would the allure of another film in the series be hard to resist? “It’s also very tempting to look back into that world–particularly the characters who survived and the new lore I’ve brought into play,” Cronin said. “So, it’s certainly something to be discussed. When you’re making a movie in a franchise, you’re always talking about what’s next–and what’s possible.”
