Canadian actor Lawrence Dane–who had several memorable roles in genre films–passed away earlier this week at the age of 84.
Dane passed away at his home in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario following a long battle with pancreatic cancer, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His wife Laurel and other family members reportedly were at his side at the end.
Dane began his acting career in the late ’50s and early ’60s on Canadian television, and quickly moved on to Hollywood and such hit TV series as Bonanza, Mannix and The Mod Squad. In the 1980s, he appeared in such genre series as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Outer Limits.
Taking to the big screen in the 1980s and ’90s, Dane had roles in the slasher Happy Birthday to Me and David Cronenberg’s Scanners. He also appeared in Darkman II: The Return of Durant and played Lt. Preston in Bride of Chucky, where he was the first victim of Chucky’s child as Bride concluded.
Dane is survived by his wife Laurel and his extended family.
The staff of Horror News Network extends its condolence to Dane’s family, friends and colleagues.
