Latest ‘Spawn’ Comic Will Be Special Team-Up Effort

by Thomas Tuna

Todd McFarlane is wrapping up the “Year of Spawn” with a bang.

The legendary comic book creator and Image Comics have teamed up all year to produce original Spawn comics, and now the horror-themed four-color characters themselves will band together in The Scorched No1, as reported by cbr.com. Check out the eye-popping cover on this page.

The 48-page The Scorched No1–a comic that reportedly has been three decades in the making–comes on the heels of such titles as Spawn’s UniverseGunslinger Spawn and King Spawn and will feature Spawn, Reaper, She-Spawn and Medieval Spawn in frenetic action. The comic–rated Teen+–will go on sale Jan. 12, 2022 for $5.99.

The series will be written by Sean Lewis (King Spawn) and illustrated by Stephen Segovia (King SpawnVengeance of Vampirella)–with covers by various artists, including Ryan Stegman, Brett Booth, Greg Capullo and McFarlane himself.

McFarlane explained in a release that the premiere issue of The Scorched is “on track to become another record-setting new title. We are having a blast creating an all-new team book with new storylines and old and new characters.”

Spawn first appeared in comic book form nearly 30 years ago–in Spawn No1 (May 1992)–and has branched out from those humble beginnings into feature films (there have been no recent updates on the much-anticipated Spawn reboot), an HBO animated series and armies of action figures.
