Stefani Germanotta is going gaga over the Joker.
Germanotta–better known, of course, as the award-winning singer/actress Lady Gaga–is in talks to star opposite Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie a Deux, according to a report on Deadline.
It is believed the part Gaga would play is Harley Quinn, the Arkham Asylum psychiatrist who falls for Phoenix’ Arthur Fleck. Phoenix has not yet signed on the dotted line to reprise his decidedly different take on the Joker, but he is said to be in “advanced talks” and it seems a foregone conclusion that he will return for the sequel.
Little is known about the sequel to the wildly successful 2019 Joker at this early stage, but director Todd Phillips will again be behind the cameras and has co-written the screenplay with Scott Silver.
Joker–starring Phoenix, Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz and Frances Conroy–follows failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck whose descent into insanity leads him to the persona of the Joker. The film became the first R-rated movie to gross more than $1 billion at the box office.
Gaga has proved her acting chops with breakout roles in the remake of A Star Is Born (which also won her an Academy Award for Best Original Song) and the recent House of Gucci from director Ridley Scott.
