The apes are burning up the news grapevine.
Just yesterday, it was reported that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes–the latest entry in the popular film franchise–had started production in Australia, and now it’s been learned that the pic will hit theaters May 24, 2024, according to a report on Deadline.
Kingdom–from 20th Century Studios–is directed by Wes Ball from a screenplay by Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Patrick Aison. The film stars Owen Teague as the lead primate, along with Eka Darville, Freya Allan, Peter Macon and Kevin Durand.
The movie–set “many years” after the conclusion of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes–will not be a reboot, according to Ball. No plot details have yet been revealed.
The Apes film franchise–based on a novel by Pierre Boulle–has been a cash cow at the box office so far, raking in $1.7 billion globally. The series began with the 1968 classic Planet of the Apes.
