The new trailer for Kevin Williamson’s upcoming CBS All Access series, Tell Me a Story, was just released and it is definitely reminiscent of the stories that made him famous in the 1990’s. In Williamson’s own words (from the TCA Conference) “This reminds me a lot of my early days. It took me back to another place.”
The writer/director best known for Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Faculty, and Dawson’s Creek, appears to be venturing back into the slasher-thriller territory with his new series, which is supposedly based on classic fairy tales (and also based on an Argentinian anthology series). The focus on young, attractive twenty-somethings and mystery is readily apparent in the trailer (as well as a lot of sex and drug use, which I guess I missed the last time I read Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel and The Three Little Pigs).
The series will take place in a wild version of New York City and Williamson says that the story will be grounded in a dark, gritty reality, with no supernatural influences (which was never Williamson’s “cup of tea” in the first place). He also claims that the series will be topical as “These characters are dealing with what’s going on today. All these ideas are brought on to this fun, fast-paced and twisty show.”
Cast members include Billy Magnussen, Diana Ramirez, Danielle Campbell, Dorian Missick, Davi Santos, James Wolk, Michael Raymond-James, Sam Jaeger, Zabryna Guevara with Paul Wesley and Kim Cattrall. The series debuts on CBS All Access (CBS’s new subscription-based streaming service) on Halloween night of this year.
