Kevin Greutert: ‘Saw’ Series Will “Probably” Continue

by Thomas Tuna

Does Jigsaw have more traps in his bloody bag of terrible tricks?

Saw X–the latest entry in the long-running horror franchise–will hit the big screen later this month, and fans can likely look forward to even more installments–if director Kevin Greutert can be believed.

The tenth Saw feature–headed to theaters Sept. 29–is helmed by Greutert from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger. And, while Greutert recently told SFX Magazine there’s “no obvious new direction to go after this film,” he added that “there probably will be more Saw movies–particularly if this one’s successful.”

The director went on to describe this new movie as “the most standalone Saw film since the first one. It’s not about knowing or remembering anything about the previous films.”

Tobin Bell’s returning John Kramer “is the center of this story,” Greutert added. “They tried to make the last Saw without Tobin, and that was a pretty gutsy move.” Saw X finds Kramer trying an experimental procedure he hopes will cure his cancer–only to discover it’s all a scam.

Predictably, when Kramer realizes what’s going on, he sets out for revenge against the con artists–using “devious, deranged and ingenious traps.”

The cast is rounded out by Shawnee Smith (as Amanda Young)–along with Renata Vaca, Paulette Hernandez, Joshua Okamoto, Octavio Hinojosa, Synnove Macody Lund, Steven Brand and Michael Beach.
