Venom is keeping it in the family.
Kelly Marcel–who wrote and produced the first two Venom features for Sony Pictures–has signed on to direct the third installment in the blockbuster franchise, according to a report on Deadline.
Marcel will also produce the film–along with Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker–as well writing the screenplay from a story she and star Tom Hardy hatched.
Plot details are being kept under wraps at this time, but Venom 3 will see Hardy reprise his role as Eddie Brock and the symbiote Venom. Other casting choices, production schedules and a release window are all unknown at this early stage.
Last year’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage–directed by Andy Serkis from Marcel’s screenplay–was a successful sequel to 2018’s Venom that saw Eddie Brock (Hardy) in conflict with serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson) after he becomes the host of another symbiote, Carnage.
The sequel proved to be another box office hit, raking in more than $500 million worldwide on a budget of $110 million.
