Sharpen those stakes.
It’s been more than two years since any word surfaced about the reboot of the 2004 Van Helsing horror pic, but this week the filmmaker attached to the project–Julius Avery–shed some light on his efforts.
Avery (The Pope’s Exorcist) recently discussed the reboot project with Fangoria, and his excitement over working with James Wan. “I’m a huge fan of his,” Avery said. “I’ve been wanting to work with him for a while.”
Avery added, “Yeah, we’re teamed up on a Van Helsing movie–which I’m currently writing and intend to direct, with James producing. That’s still in motion. I can’t say much more than that, but I’m very excited about it.”
The original Van Helsing–written and directed by Stephen Sommers–stars Hugh Jackman as monster hunter Gabriel Van Helsing and Kate Beckinsale as Anna Valerious. The film–inspired by the Abraham Van Helsing character from Bram Stoker’s Dracula–did not fare well with critics, but earned $300 million worldwide on a $160-million budget.
