The film’s two stars–Joaquin Phoenix reprising his title role and Lady Gaga as his love interest–have finished their work, as the musical feature heads towards its Oct. 4, 2024 theatrical release.

The Warner Bros. and DC Films sequel–directed by Phillips from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver–has not revealed much about the storyline, but it’s believed it will take place primarily in the horror that is Arkham Asylum.

Joining Phoenix and Gaga in the cast are Harry Lawtey, Jacob Lofland, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener and Brendan Gleeson.

The original Joker follows failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck (Phoenix), whose descent into madness leads him to the twisted persona of the Joker. The film killed it at the box office, becoming the first R-rated movie to earn more than $1 billion worldwide.
