The asylum is filling up.
Joker: Folie a Deux (“madness shared by two”, for those who may be wondering)–the sequel to the 2019 blockbuster–has one more cast member on board this week, according to a report on Deadline.
Harry Lawtey (Industry) has joined the ensemble, which already has Jacob Lofland, Zazie Beetz, Catherine Keener and Brendan Gleeson in place. Joaquin Phoenix will reprise his Oscar-winning lead role, joined by Lady Gaga as his love interest, Harley Quinn.
The Warner Bros. and DC Films sequel will reportedly be set within Arkham Asylum–where Phoenix’ Arthur Fleck (aka the Joker) wound up in the first film–and will feature musical elements (cue Gaga).
The sequel–directed by the returning Todd Phillips from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver–is preparing to start filming in December for an Oct. 4, 2024 theatrical release.
The original Joker follows failed clown and aspiring stand-up comedian Fleck, whose descent into madness leads him to assume the persona of the Joker. The film was the first R-rated pic to earn more than $1 billion at the box office.
