Just a typical teenager. Not.

Jenna Ortega–who stars in the upcoming Netflix Wednesday series–took to Instagram this week to give fans a glimpse into her “mourning”. Check out the relaxed (but bizarre) pose on this page.

The series–directed by Tim Burton–will land on Netflix sometime during the fourth quarter of this year (no exact debut date has been announced), and Ortega has obviously given a lot of thought to her character.

“We’ve never seen her as a teenage girl,” Ortega said. “So, how do we establish this character and give her the same fire without letting her become something she’s not? Also, it’s an eight-hour series, so–for an emotionless character–there has to be some sort of an emotional arc.”

It’s been a challenge, she said, to let her “push the story forward, but keep her true to her deadpan self. I’ve never had the opportunity to play an iconic character. I know she’s well-loved and well-respected, and I just don’t want to mess her up.”

The series also stars Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzman as Gomez, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, George Burcea as Lurch, Victor Dorobantu as the disembodied Thing and Christina Ricci (who played Wednesday on the big screen) in an undisclosed role.

Wednesday–based on the classic ’60s TV series The Addams Family–follows the Addams daughter at Nevermore Academy, where she “attempts to master her emerging psychic abilities, thwart a monstrous killing spree and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago,” according to the synopsis.
