Game night just got a lot bloodier. This is not your father’s old, dusty Monopoly, Clue or Life board game.
The Op will release the officially licensed Friday the 13th: Horror at Camp Crystal Lake board game this July just in time for summer fun, according to Jake Davis, the company’s senior marketing manager.
Davis added that The Op wanted this game to be in the hands of fans before Halloween, thus the summer release. The game will set you back $29.99.
As explained, players in this game will have the chance to portray several different camp counselors trying to stay alive for five nights while being pursued by (drumroll, please!) Jason Voorhees.
“What’s really unique about this game is that it covers several horror genres–movies, books, TV–while covering the classic horror movies to modern,” Davis said.
Carol Johnston, lead brand manager of The Op, agreed with those sentiments, adding that “fans will have plenty to sign their teeth into (pun intended).”
The company said in a statement that, in this horror game, players will become such camp counselors as the Nerd, the Partier, the Nice Guy, the Final Girl, the Diva and the Jock “as they rely on chance and strategy to survive the nights being terrorized by blood-thirsty Jason.”
Players may collect tools of survival–cast iron pans, gasoline, cleavers and flashlights–to help them in their plight. Gathering up these items helps players accrue points and Fear cards in order to escape Jason’s attacks.
The company added that “strategy and supplies keep you alive, but the odds of returning safely to camp get slimmer with every turn.” Gulp!
The game includes player boards, a cabin board, supply cards, backpack cards, Fear cards, Blood Spatter Tokens, Escape Tokens, Player Tokens and Supply Tokens.
Going forward, The Op is already looking ahead to new games on the horizon. But the game makers weren’t quite ready to show their hands yet. “You’ll just have to stay tuned this year,” Davis said. “We have a very exciting game we will introduce next month.”
