Jared Leto Plays The Savage Anti-Hero In ‘Morbius’ Trailer

The line between hero and villain will be broken.

So says the first trailer in almost two years for Marvel’s horror entry Morbius that is slated for a theatrical release Jan. 28, 2022. Catch the video on this page, courtesy of JoBlo.com, and be prepared for a good look at the powerful living vampire in action.

This twist on the standard vampire tale–directed by Daniel Espinosa from a screenplay by Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Matt Sazama–tells the horrific story of Dr. Michael Morbius, a man who is “dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder” and who is determined “to save others suffering his fate,” according to the official synopsis.

In his quest, Morbius takes a desperate gamble that, at first, seems to succeed, but “a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil–or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?”

The Sony Pictures film is rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence, some frightening images and brief strong language. Not the usual Marvel fare.

Oscar winner Jared Leto plays the tragic doctor, and he is joined by Jared Harris as Morbius’ mentor, Tyrese Gibson as an FBI agent trying to hunt him down, Adria Arjona as Morbius’ fiancée Martine Bancroft, Matt Smith as Loxias Crown and Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes (the Vulture from the Spider-Man Universe).

The Marvel Comics character of Morbius–created by editor/writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane–first appeared in The Amazing SpiderMan No101 in 1971, and later starred in the black-and-white Vampire Tales from 1973-1975.
