Jamie Foxx Gives His Take On Upcoming ‘Spawn’ Remake

by Thomas Tuna

So, how is Jamie Foxx gonna look in that funky costume?

The long-gestating Spawn remake has been one big question mark for a long time now–with perhaps the biggest being who will star in the film. Well, if you listen to what Jamie Foxx had to say in a recent interview with comicbook.com, it sure sounds like he’s still the man.

When Foxx–who has been penciled in for the part for years now–was asked about the remake, he said, “I talk to Todd (McFarlane) and the thing is, we want to craft something that is so special. I remember seeing the first Spawn movies and the HBO versions, and we have something that is almost like an original–without giving too much away.”

The Oscar winner added that “we’re just getting this right, cooking it right, but staying in contact, keeping the energy going. And when we lay it on you, there’s gonna be some moments when you say, ‘Oh man’. You’ve been watching everybody shoot their shot, and now we’re getting ready to shoot ours.”

As for McFarlane, the Spawn creator recently said he decided to give his update on the remake at the New York Comic Con that runs from Oct. 6-9. “Are we moving? Are we adding pieces? All of the above–yes,” he said.

McFarlane added that “the best I can say right now is that it got slowed down during the pandemic, and then picked back up. And, at the New York Comic Con, there is going to be a big announcement.”

The last reports had McFarlane as director and producer of the film, with Brian Tucker on board as screenwriter. Jason Blum is producing the remake, with Carla Hacken serving as executive producer. Are all those pieces still in place? Time–and the New York Comic Con–will tell.
