James Ransone Joins ‘The Black Phone’

by Rob Caprilozzi

Today we learned that James Ransone has been cast in Scott Derrickson’s upcoming film for Blumhouse and Universal, The Black Phone. Ransone is a familiar face to horror fans as he has had major roles in Sinister, Sinister 2, Prom Night and It Chapter Two.

The Black Phone follows John Finney who is locked in a basement that’s stained with the blood of half a dozen other murdered children. In the cellar with him is an antique telephone, long since disconnected, but which rings at night with calls from the dead.

Derrickson and frequent collaborator C. Robert Cargill (Bermuda, Doctor Strange, Sinister) adapted the script based on Joe Hill’s short story.

In addition to his roles in horror films, Ransone has also appeared in A Dirty Shame, Inside Man, The Lie, The Son of No One, Red Hook Summer, Broken City, Empire State, Mr. Right and In a Valley of Violence.
