Deadline has news that the anticipated IT sequel will hit theaters on September 6, 2019. Andy Muschietti will return to direct the film which will once again feature Bill Skarsgard’s terrifying portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Staying true to Stephen King’s 1986 novel, the sequel will up 27 years after the first film when a phone call reunites the Loser’s Club.
Fans came out to the theater in droves and made IT the highest grossing horror film in box office history, but as our very own Nick Banks pointed out, it still has a long way to go to catch The Exorcist if you figure in inflation.
This has been a massive year for Warner Brothers as earlier in the year they released Wonder Woman which grossed 819 million at the box office, Kong: Skull Island delivered 566 million, Annabelle: Creation came in with 295 million, and they still have Blade Runner 2049 in their pocket as the film is set to be released on October 6, 2017.
While it is no surprise that a sequel to IT would be right around the corner, Warner Brothers wasted no time in firming up details to capitalize on what could easily be considered the biggest horror movie of the new millennium. With the sequel already predestined by the novel, and Skarsgard’s brilliant turn as Pennywise, this will definitely be one to keep your eye on.
