The six-episode series–expected to kick off on AMC and AMC+ sometime next year–follows Morgan’s Negan and Lauren Cohan’s Maggie as they make their way across a post-apocalyptic Manhattan “long ago cut off from the mainland,” according to the synopsis.
The once-proud metropolis is now “filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world of anarchy, danger, beauty and terror.” Joining the duo on their adventures will be Perlie Armstrong (played by Gaius Charles)–a character described as “confident, ruthless and unyielding in the pursuit of what he believes is justice…devoted to building a safe world for his wife and daughters.”
Isle of the Dead is led by showrunner Eli Jorne–a writer and executive producer on TWD–and executive producers Scott M. Gimple, Cohan and Morgan.
AMC president of entertainment Dan McDermott said the spinoff will “explore a corner of TWD universe on the island of Manhattan–with an iconic skyline that takes on a very different meaning when viewed through the lens of a zombie apocalypse.”
