Is more Marvel horror on the horizon?
Given the box office success and positive fan reaction to the budding Venom film franchise, it should surprise no one that Sony Pictures teased a third entry in the horror/super-hero series at this week’s CinemaCon.
The tease was very brief, according to a report on Deadline–just the possible film’s logo as part of a closing sizzle reel. But that may be enough for most fans. No cast or crew were mentioned during the event.
The first two films in the franchise–Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage–have earned nearly $1.5 billion worldwide. And Carnage–released last October–raked in $90 million domestically during its opening weekend, the second-best debut during the pandemic era. Overall, Carnage grossed $213.5 million domestically and $500 million worldwide.
Carnage–directed by Andy Serkis from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel–follows Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy), the host of the symbiote Venom, as he battles another symbiote, Carnage, inhabiting the body of serial killer Cletus Kasady (Woody Harrelson).
