Is There A Spinoff In The Cards For ‘Stranger Things’?

by Thomas Tuna

Fans have been clamoring for Season 4 of the Netflix hit Stranger Things, but they may get more than expected somewhere down the road.

Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos discussed the success of the show’s third season during a recent interview, according to a report on Deadline, and he dropped some juicy hints about a potential spinoff series sometime in the future.

Calling Stranger Things “a franchise being born,” Sarandos acknowledged that “franchises are good, but what you want are hits.” Now, by any yardstick, Stranger Things has proven to be a hit, so the next logical step could well be a spinoff.

Specifically, it was suggested that a spinoff featuring Millie Bobby Brown could be the next move. Brown already has an existing deal with Netflix, but it’s unclear at this point if any possible spinoff would star her Eleven character or if she may produce the next show.

Discussing her Eleven persona in a recent interview, Brown said she hopes the character “finds who she is, without a male influence in her life,” during Season 4. “So, I would like an arc for Eleven to learn how to love herself and learn who she is. I think she needs a little self-journey.”

Stranger Things 4–as reported here in Horror News Network–recently wrapped production and will debut on Netflix sometime next year, with no exact date yet announced. The season’s opening episode–Chapter OneThe Hellfire Club–reportedly will spotlight Hawkins Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour), despite his apparent death in the Season 3 finale.

Harbour will be joined in the upcoming season by Brown, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard, Robert Englund, Amybeth McNulty, Myles Truitt, Regina Ting Chen and Grace Van Dien.

The series–from creators and showrunners Matt and Ross Duffer–follows the residents of Hawkins, Ind. in the 1980s as they deal with the supernatural threat of the alternate dimension known as The Upside Down.
