Imagine Entertainment Picks Up ‘Whalefall’ Novel For Film Deal

Even Jonah would find this one hard to swallow.

Imagine Entertainment this week landed a film rights deal for Whalefall–an upcoming deep-sea horror novel from bestselling author Daniel Kraus, according to a report on Deadline.

The novel–published by MTV Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster–is slated to hit bookstore shelves Aug. 8. No writing or production work will start on the film adaptation during the ongoing writers’ and actors’ strikes.

In the novel, a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains is swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale “and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out,” according to the synopsis.

This young man–who has given up on life–“finds a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.”
