Idris Elba to Direct and Star in ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ Musical for Netflix

The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been synonymous with classic horror ever since Lon Chaney first exploded onto the silver screen in the classic 1923 film adaptation of Victor Hugo’s legendary novel. Now, nearly 100 years later, Idris Elba will adapt the story into a modern musical for Netflix!

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Elba will produce the music, direct the project, and star in the picture as the legendary Quasimodo. He will also produce the film alongside Ana Garanito, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Fred Berger of La La Land fame (which is certainly promising news given the musical element of the new production).

No other details have been revealed at this time, except that the production promises to be a “sonic and musical experience.” Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more details on this exciting new project as they break!
