Summer always returns.

Another sequel to the 1997 horror pic I Know What You Did Last Summer seems to be on the fast track now, as a director has signed on for the project that’s said to be in early development, according to a report on Deadline.

The Sony Pictures film this week secured Jennifer Kaytin Robinson to direct the pic that may see Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their lead roles. Both actors are in talks to join the project.

No plot details have yet been unveiled, but Leah McKendrick is on board as screenwriter, and Neal H. Moritz is in discussions to return as producer.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer--directed by Jim Gillespie from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson–stars Hewitt, Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. Loosely based on the 1973 Lois Duncan novel of the same name, the feature follows four young friends who are being stalked by a hook-wielding killer one year after they covered up a car accident during which they supposedly killed a man.
