The legend continues–with major star power.
Warner Bros. this week revealed plans for the next chapter in the successful I Am Legend franchise–plans that include not only original star Will Smith, but Michael B. Jordan of Black Panther and Creed fame. The stars also will produce the new film, according to Deadline.
Smith recently was nominated for a Best Actor Academy award for his leading role in King Richard, and Jordan has garnered a Primetime Emmy Award nom for producing Fahrenheit 451.
Akiva Goldsman–who adopted Richard Matheson’s 1954 novel for the original film–will again handle the screenplay and act as co-producer. Plot details are being kept under wraps, and no director has been announced at this early juncture.
Ryan Shimazaki will oversee the project for Westbrook Studios, with James Lassiter on board as executive producer.
The 2007 I Am Legend–directed by Francis Lawrence–follows Dr. Robert Neville (Smith), a U.S. Army virologist trapped in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan suffering from the spread of a deadly virus that has wiped out most of humanity. The film–which received mostly positive reviews–raked in more than $585 million worldwide on a $150-million budget.
