Gone…but not forgotten?
Scream 6 will definitely be different. If for no other reason, Neve Campbell’s familiar Sidney Prescott character will be conspicuous by her absence. As reported, Campbell had issues with her compensation for the upcoming horror pic and opted to sit this one out.
But, one of the returning stars, Jenna Ortega (who will be seen next in the Netflix Wednesday series), had some encouraging news for fans of the franchise.
Ortega–during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight–said the next Scream installment has so much going on that it might make up for Prescott’s absence. “There’s so much going on in this one,” she said, “and it’s so action-heavy and so gore-heavy that I think you’re gonna be almost distracted.”
Ortega did acknowledge, though, that the upcoming film has “references to Sidney, of course. It’s nice because there’s still a protectiveness in the script, and that’s something that the actors had naturally over her because, obviously, we respect her and want the best for her. She’s missed,” Ortega added, “and thought of.”
Scream 6–which will hit theaters March 10, 2023–is directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
Ortega will be joined in the cast by veterans Courteney Cox, Hayden Panettiere, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding–along with newcomers Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra and Henry Czerny.
The film will follow the four survivors of the last Ghostface killings “as they leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter.” And that chapter will unfold in New York City. Is Broadway ready for Ghostface?
