While there were many covers this year that deserved consideration, we were all amazed at cover #1D for the first issue of Morbius by Marvel Comics. It took only a matter of seconds while scanning the image to know that the cover was graced by the art of Kyle Hotz.
Released on November 13, 2019, Morbius #1 follows Michael Morbius struggling to cure himself of his vampirism, and now, for the first time in years, one may be within reach. But the path to it is littered with dangers and worse.
First introduced in The Amazing Spider-Man #101, Morbius has been a mainstay in the Marvel Universe appearing in cartoons, video games and the character will be played by Jared Leto in a film adaptation of Morbius which is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2020.
Having graduated a bachelor’s degree in fine arts in 1993, Kyle has been an artist on many books including Ghost Rider 2099, Detective Comics, Man-Thing, Carnage, Zombie, Evil Ernie, Criminal Macabre, Ghostbusters and more.
Congratulations to artist Kyle Hotz for winning the 2019 Horror Comic Awards Cover of the Year.
