Bah, humbug! Bloober Team is playing the part of Scrooge this holiday season, announcing this week that its highly anticipated psychological horror game The Medium won’t be available next month, as expected.
The developer broke the bad Yuletide news on its Twitter account, saying the game will not release on the Xbox Series X, Series S and PC platforms Dec. 10–as reported here in Horror News Network–but instead be available Jan. 28, 2021, according to comicbook.com.
Bloober said this added lag time for the release will allow the developer to work further on the game and add even more to the experience. “After much careful thought and consideration,” the company tweeted, “we have made the difficult decision to delay the launch of The Medium to Jan. 28, 2021.”
This decision was made, Bloober added, “due to the COVID-19 situation in Poland, as well as the current schedule of other games on the market.” Those “other games”, it was intimated, may refer to the CD Projekt Red decision to release its Cyberpunk 2077 game on Dec. 10. Bloober’s thinking may have been that it would be wiser to avoid releasing The Medium on the same date.
The Medium–a third-person horror game–boasts a dual-reality gameplay feature, as well as a soundtrack co-composed by Akira Yamaoka, who composed Silent Hill. Acting as a medium, players will “travel to the abandoned Niwa resort and use their psychic abilities to uncover its disturbing secrets, solve dual-reality puzzles and survive encounters with sinister spirits,” according to the official description.
Bloober Team also is responsible for developing such popular genre games as Layers Of Fear (2016), Observer (2017) and Blair Witch (2019).
