The dance card for this Halloween season is filling up quickly.
Amazon Prime Video this week announced two horror films that will debut on the service in September, according to a report on Deadline.
The first–Goodnight Mommy–premieres Sept. 16 from director Matt Sobel and screenwriter Kyle Warren. The producers include V.J. Guibal, Nicolas Brigaud-Robert, Joshua Astrachan and David Kaplan.
In this R-rated thriller–starring Naomi Watts, Cameron Crovetti, Nicholas Crovetti and Peter Hermann–when twin brothers arrive home “to find their mother’s demeanor altered and her face covered in surgical bandages, they begin to suspect the woman beneath the gauze might not be their mother,” according to the synopsis.
The next film–My Best Friend’s Exorcism–debuts Sept. 30. The R-rated movie–directed by Damon Thomas from a screenplay by Jenna Lamia–is based on the book by Grady Hendrix.
Starring Elsie Fisher, Amiah Miller, Cathey Ang, Rachel Ogechi and Christopher Lowell, the film is set in 1988 and follows high school sophomores Abby and Gretchen, who have been best friends since fourth grade.
But, according to the synopsis, “after an evening of skinny-dipping goes very wrong, Gretchen begin to act…differently. And bizarre incidents keep happening whenever she’s nearby.”
Abby’s investigation leads her to some startling discoveries and, by the time the story ends, “the fate of Abby and Gretchen will be determined by a single question: Is their friendship powerful enough to beat the devil?”
