An acclaimed horror comic book is being adapted as a live-action Netflix series–and two familiar names to genre fans are behind the project.
Mike Flanagan–who created The Haunting of Hill House for Netflix and directed Doctor Sleep–and his producing partner Trevor Macy are writing a pilot based on Something is Killing the Children, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The goal would be to create a continuing series–if Netflix gives the green light–and, with this creative team on the job, the odds for that are good.
Flanagan and Macy also will serve as executive producers for the show, with Macy acting as showrunner when, and if, the series is set in stone. It’s unclear at this time if Flanagan would direct any of the episodes.
Something is Killing the Children–published by BOOM! Studios–was created in 2019 by writer James Tynion IV and artist Werther Dell’Edera. The horror comic book–a 2020 Eisner Award nominee for Best New Series and the 2020 winner of Horror News Network’s Comics Series of the Year–introduces the town of Archer’s Peak, a tortured place dealing with a rash of missing children.
Most of these children never return, “but the ones who do have terrible stories of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows.” The town’s only hope is a mysterious stranger, “who believes the children and claims to see what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills monsters.”
