Some invitations are hard to resist.
The Invitation–a Dracula-inspired “contemporary horror thriller”–this week was rated PG-13 for “terror, violent content, some strong language, sexual content and partial nudity.”
The Sony Screen Gems entry–slated for a theatrical release Aug. 26–is directed by Jessica M. Thompson from a screenplay by Blair Butler. The film stars Nathalie Emmanuel, Thomas Doherty, Hugh Skinner, Sean Pertwee, Courtney Taylor, Alana Boden and Stephanie Cornellussen.
The film–formerly entitled The Bride–follows Evie (Emmanuel), who takes a DNA test following her mother’s death and discovers “a long-lost cousin she never knew she had,” according to the synopsis.
Invited to a lavish wedding in the English countryside, Evie “is seduced by the aristocratic host and is thrust into a nightmare of survival–as she discovers twisted secrets in her family’s history and the unsettling intentions behind their sinful generosity.”
