Variety has reported that Michael Dougherty and Zach Shields will be writing the script to the highly anticipated 2019 Legendary Pictures film, Godzilla 2. The two have most recently worked for Legendary on last year’s Krampus, which was written by them (along with Todd Casey) and directed by Dougherty.
Michael Dougherty’s other instant horror classic was 2007’s Trick ‘r Treat. Originally released straight to video by Warner Bros., the film has since gained a rabid fanbase; and new content based on the franchise continues to be produced to this day. Both Trick ‘r Treat and Krampus have been lauded by fans and critics for their stylistic portrayals of their monster characters, which hearken back to the older days of movie monster filmmaking.
Legendary have been been clear that their intentions are to build towards 2020’s Godzilla vs. Kong. With these competent writers involved, viewers will hopefully be in for a more monster-centric portrayal of the big green lizard, leading up to literally the largest monster mash in the history of cinema!
Godzilla 2 is scheduled to land in cinemas on March 22nd, 2019. Godzilla vs. Kong is currently scheduled to arrive on May 29th, 2020. Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more information on both of these films as it breaks!
