As fans of horror comics, we loved the Marvel horror explosion of the 70s that featured titles like Ghost Rider, Werewolf by Night, Tomb of Dracula, Doctor Strange, Frankenstein, Man-Thing, and more. We were treated to another horror uprising in the 90s as we saw Doctor Strange gather together the Midnight Sons which consisted of Blade, Frank Drake, Hannibal King (all from the Tomb of Dracula series), Morbius (another 70s horror gem), Ghost Rider (a new version whose host was Dan Ketch), Johnny Blaze, and Victoria Montesi, Sam Buchanon and Louise Hastings of The Darkhold Redeemers.
Sadly, since that time (with the exception of Marvel Zombies), these types of characters have really been background fodder. Occasionally if the Midnight Sons pop up, they are littered with super heroes joined to their ranks to help increase sales of the series.
Lucky for us, 2022 delivered our beloved Ghost Rider back to us. Marvel Comics released a new series in February written by Benjamin Percy and Cory Smith that really is true to the characters roots and will warm any horror fans heart.
With that being said, we are happy to present the 2022 Horror Comic Award for Series of the Year to Benjamin Percy, Cory Smith, and Marvel Comics for their Ghost Rider series. Congratulations to all involved!
