Horror Comic Awards 2020: Cover of the Year

by Rob Caprilozzi

The importance of a comic book cover cannot be understated. It is perhaps the leading factor, next to the character/title, that accounts for a consumer purchasing the issue. With that being said, horror comics have always excelled in this area and 2020 was no exception.

The 2020 Horror Comic Award for Cover of the Year goes to The Department of Truth #2C. This amazing cover, published by Image Comics, was done by artist, Francesco Francavilla.

Francavilla’s art style is immediately noticeable as it exhibits retro and pulp. His work on horror comics include Afterlife with Archie, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Dark Shadows, Black-Eyed Kids, The X-Files, The Twilight Zone, Army of Darkness, Reanimator and Elvira.

The Department of Truth follows Cole Turner, a man that has studied conspiracy theories all his life, but he isn’t prepared for what happens when he discovers that all of them are true, from the JFK assassination to flat Earth theory and reptilian shapeshifters. One organization has been covering them up for generations. What is the deep, dark secret behind the Department of Truth?

Congratulations to Image Comics and Francesco Francavilla for receiving this award. Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more on the Horror Comic Awards.
