Hatching–a new horror entry from IFC Films–hits theaters and on-demand tomorrow, May 17, and a frightening trailer and poster have been unveiled. Check them out–courtesy of screenrant.com–on this page.
The feature film debut for Finnish director Hanna Bergholm–who wrote the screenplay with Ilja Rautsi–Hatching enjoyed a successful world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Hatching follows 12-year-old gymnast Tinja (Siiri Solalinna), “who is desperate to please her image-obsessed mother (Sophia Heikkila) with her athletic prowess and competitive edge,” according to the synopsis.
Though Tinja’s mother has fashioned a perfect suburban existence for her family–and documented it on her popular blog–“the reality of her marriage and parenting are very different.”
When Tinja finds a wounded bird in the woods, she brings its egg home and hatches it, “unleashing a strange creature that becomes her best friend–and her worst nightmare.”
