Hope Springs Eternal For Another ‘Scream’ Entry

That Scream six-pack may be more than just a pipe dream.

With the early box office success of the the most recent Scream, fans’ thoughts have turned (naturally) to one more sequel to the classic horror film franchise. And now, according to recent interviews with people behind–and in front of–the cameras, the stars just may be coming into alignment.

It’s far too early to make plans for buying tickets to a Scream 6, but the screenwriting duo behind this year’s installment have a storyline in mind, according to a recent Entertainment Weekly interview with directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

When asked about the future of the franchise, Gillett said Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt “have a really great idea for where this saga goes. And I can say that we had such an amazing time making this one.”

From start to finish, Gillett said, “it was just like a dream come true. And, if they’d have us back, we’d do it in a heartbeat.”

Couple that enthusiasm with an interview star Neve Campbell held with The Hollywood Reporter–as reported here in Horror News Network–and it’s easy to see why fans are keeping their fingers crossed for another installment.

When asked if she was interested in starring in another Scream, Campbell said, “Yeah, absolutely. It’s down to the strength of the story.” But, she added, “these guys did really well on this one, so I’m curious to see what would come next. So, we’ll see.”

The original 1996 Scream that started the ball rolling–from director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson–follows high school student Sidney Prescott as she is stalked by the murderous Ghostface. That film earned a whopping $173 million on a $15-million budget.
